Unhealthy

In 2006 my mom faced a life or death medical crisis. She's been in the hospital (twice now) in recent weeks, with unrelated issues, but, memories of that time frame in 2006 flooded back to my sisters and I.
I'm confident she'll get past this current medical episode.
As our family filled her hospital room last night with laughter and love, it struck me how our lifestyle choices affect not just us and our bodies, but those around us too.
As I soaked everything in, generations of unhealthy lifestyles in my family was evident.
My biological father did not die of natural causes, but from disease.
My maternal grandmother lived a long life, but dealt with medical issues for many years.
I watched us all last night and thought to myself, "we can change this".
Unhealthy versus healthy living is a choice.
Yes, there are some medical issues that crop up beyond our individual control, but, we have control over more than we give ourselves credit for.
I once believed I would not live past age 30. I'm 47 as of this writing.
Healthy living, instead of unhealthy living is a choice.
Let's choose wisely.
