Reframe fear.
Mastin Kipp breaks fear into two chunks: survival fear and irrational fear.
Survival fear can save your life, listen to it.
But, that irrational fear, you know the one I'm talking about, it screams in your ear as you're getting ready to walk on stage and you feel like you're going to die.
That's wholly irrational. I haven't heard of anyone dying from giving a speech (if you have, leave me a comment).
In order to deal with this kind of fear we have to reframe it, or, dance with it.
To reframe, instead of letting the voice scream "If you go on stage everyone will laugh at you when you forget your lines and you'll never be taken seriously again" say to yourself "What I have to say is important, I'm thankful for the opportunity to speak with this audience today".
Dancing is straightforward. You can verbally acknowledge the fear, call it out, "I know you're there. I see you. I feel you. But, I'm doing this anyway. You can come with, if you want".
Regardless the method you use to move through your fear, remember, irrational fear is a dream stealer.
Don't let it steal yours.
