Take a note book with you when at a doctor's visit or in the hospital.

Ask lots of questions.

Turns out my mom's hospital stay this week is due to a lung infection, that the hospital did not catch when she was there last week.

Just like parents have to proactively guide their children through the public education system, as patients, we must take the same care.
