Personal growth and development is an investment. And like nearly all investments it takes money.
I used to be of the mind set that good moral people should not engage in activities focused on generating greater income. In fact, though my religious background never came out and said literally money was bad, it was inferred (or at the very least on a subconscious level that was the message I received).
Now, I understand and embrace the fact that, in order to change our own lives and that of others we must increase our wealth.
(Lewis Howes interviewed Grant Cardone, a real estate mogul and Grant has an interesting perspective. He believes being financially poor is selfish and irresponsible.)
Not to mention, it takes money to grow yourself (books, workshops, webinars, conferences etc.)
Here's a simple example. Toward the end of last year as I ruminated on my goals for this year, Beloved and I both said we wanted to donate money to causes that resonated with us.
One non-profit I want to regularly support is Big Brothers Big Sisters. The opportunity I'm presented with is how do I do so in my current financial state? Thus, my state has to change.
Another example, is the health care system in America. It is not structured to keep us healthy. All of us must become fanatics about maintaining our health. Simultaneously, we need the money to take care of our medical expenses (or that of our loved ones) when the need arises. According to this article, medical bill debt is the number one reason people file for bankruptcy.
Let's get our financial houses in order, so we can positively impact lives thus make a difference in the world.
